Evening around the Hearth

Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 - Uvie Farm, Newtonmore, Highlands

From 20:00 till 00:00

In the dusk of one of the longest day of the year, voices will rise to tell us true stories and myths about Highlanders Cattle.

In the past, life in the Highlands was possible by a mutual cooperation and dependance between humans, animals and their environnement. Today, this balance is in danger. In a shrinking rural world, can the cattle succeed once again to keep us in our beloved land? What testimony do they offer us about the landscape and the past life? How can we learn from these lives and use it for the future of our land?

We believe that celebrating together the Highlanders in an architecture space allowing a «living-together», can be an exciting way to be part of the life balance of the Highlands. Making it possible to share our experiences and memories, we can once again bind together and write a new collective memory.

  • For the evening we will light the central hearth and some bone fires around the «Hammockery» around 19:00. We will be cooking a big barbecue and supper, but you can bring your own meal if you want. This is when we will be launching the Cattle men voices records.

  • After dinner we will be listening to the storyteller Ruth Kirkpatrick’s play on Myths and Cattle. This rich night will stimulate imagination and trigger all night long conversations.

There are only 8 available Hammocks under the shed. If you have one you can hang it in the forest. There will be a large parking space and a camp site where you can plant your tent.Composting toilets.

Food will be provided between 19:00 and 20:00, please let us know if you want to eat from the barbecue we will prepare.
